Why make another spam tool?
...Because none of them work...
Every morning our inboxes are filled with people trying to reach us for our car's extended warranty, or someone trying to sell us offshore developers, or people that have lead lists that we need to buy. It slows us down and de-focuses us on the messages that are important, takes time away from our day and is a massive distraction.
And all of these anti-spam tools don't work. We have Microsoft 365 and other amazing technical solutions - but they don't work. And it's because they're all going about it backwards. So, we created SpamBuster to help everyone get out from underneath the scourge of unwanted messages.
And it's so simple. We start by changing how it all works. Stop allowing everyone to email while trying to block bad guys. Instead, just let me choose known good senders, keep track of them, and stop allowing bad guys through.
If an email sender is in your contact list, or you've ever sent them an email, there's a really good chance you want that message. If not, ask the sender to verify that they're human and this message is not spam.
Founder's story time
Where's my direct deposit?
In 2018, the day after pay day, I noticed my bank account was low and I didn't see my direct deposit. Hmm, that's strange.
I called up our Controller and asked if she knew what happened. She said, yes of course, that I had asked her to change my direct deposit information.
As you probably guessed, I didn't ask her to change my direct deposit. She received an email from someone saying they were me. They took the time to chat and seem friendly to build rapport. The scammer continued, and emailed instructions stating that they needed to update my direct deposit info as I had a new bank account. So she did.
How is this possible? She isn't naive, or new, or even gullible. LinkedIn gives scammers such a simple way to find out a company's internal organization. And if you're a controller, and the boss emails saying they need something, you jump to it.
So I had to do something to help everyone avoid this and all the other spam and scam emails out there. MILLIONS of scams are attempted, and the current state of anti-spam and anti-malware just isn't good enough.
This is why SpamBuster exists.
Why is my daughter sending me a 911 text?
In 2024, I got a text from my daughter saying, "I need your help right now, it's bad!"
So, that's super scary.
I called and thankfully it was just a scammer. Not sentence I thought I'd ever say.
It turns out she got an email from a 'friend' that asked her to try out a new game so they could play together. Of course, that wasn't a game, rather it was software that sent her entire Chrome password list to the scammer. The scammer got all of the usernames and passwords to all the sites she ever saved. The person then asked for money or they would go and destroy her life.
To make the story short, she had to change every password and had to completely reset her computer, as we didn't know the extent of the malware. This took hours and hours across multiple days.
It shouldn't be so easy for a spam or scam message to interrupt your day and possible screw up your life.
