One payday, my bank account showed a balance that didn’t match what should have landed. A scammer had impersonated me over email to our company Controller, requesting a change to my direct deposit details.
The Controller isn’t naive, or new, or even gullible. But that one email looked legitimate enough — and that was all it took.
My daughter’s ransomware
My daughter got an email from what looked like a friend, asking her to try a game. The link installed malware that exfiltrated her entire Chrome password list. She faced extortion attempts and lost hours, across multiple days, resetting her computer.
